Alloy coolant impellers (shown on left) are now available through LT-Racing.
The impellers feature improved coolant flow and durability over the stock
plastic impeller. The LT-Racing Alloy impeller will prevent overheating and
will not come apart or deform when the going gets tough, failures of the
stock plastic impeller under severe conditions have been common and have
caused expensive damage to the engine. Used and endorsed by the GNCC GasGas
Motors of America Team.

Here is a perfect example of a failed impeller, typically all that is
left is the brass insert. This belongs to Jeff Neathery's 2002 EC 300.
Earlier, he had somewhat overheated his machine while clearing trail.
After this, he made the trip from his home in Missouri to the spodefest
in Idaho for the annual RMD trail ride. A little ways into the ride his
bike had overheated something fierce, but no coolant came out the overflow.
They added some water and the bike quickly overheated again.

The water pump seal, which is spring loaded into the back of the impeller,
had chewed its way into the softened impeller. The seal was lost and all
of the coolant quickly found its way into the transmission in addition to
burning up the top end. Not a good weekend for Jeff, and we wish a swift
recovery for his EC. Don't let this happen to you!
